The History of Lincoln Financial Field

After two years of work that started by breaking ground on May 7, 2001, the stadium was opened on August 3, 2003, taking the place of Veterans Stadium as the Philadelphia Eagles’ home field.

The City of Philadelphia, with the State of Pennsylvania, contributed a combined sum of $188 million to the construction of Lincoln Financial Field. The naming rights of the stadium were sold to Lincoln Financial Group in June 2002 for $139.6 million spread over 21 years.

Like the Vet, Lincoln Financial Field had a jail with four cells inside the stadium. But as the amount of disorderly behavior significantly decreased, the jail was abolished in less than two years.

Lincoln Financial Field’s exterior has a brick facade referencing Philadelphia’s historic brick architecture, and the exposed steel structure is meant to evoke the city’s bridges. In 2013, the Eagles announced major upgrades for the stadium over the following two years.

The overall cost of the upgrades was $125 million. Besides Eagles games, Lincoln Financial Field hosts home games for the Temple Owls NCAA FBS college football team, who pay the Eagles $1 million a year to do so.

Where to Get Tickets for Lincoln Financial Field

You can buy tickets for Lincoln Financial Field through the Philadelphia Eagles’ official website or Ticketmaster. The Lincoln Financial Field Ticket Office is on the stadium’s north side in the HeadHouse Lobby.

The Ticket Office is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Lincoln Financial Field requires all attendees to have their ticket stub or smartphone at all times after entering the stadium.

If you do not have your ticket on you when a stadium employee asks to see it, you will be removed from the premises.

Lincoln Financial Field advises fans to purchase tickets only from the approved and official ticket platforms. If you buy your ticket from a third-party site, they may be fake, and the stadium will not approve them.

From being the home of one of the biggest NFL teams the Philadelphia Eagles to hosting some of the biggest stars in the country, it is no surprise that The Linc has such a special place in the hearts of everyone in Philadelphia.
